On this blog you’ll find all kinds of posts about how you can take your umpiring to the next level – tips on sports psychology, using technology in umpiring, fitness and recovery and lots more. You’ll also find interviews with top level and up-and-coming international umpires and officials, as well as a few posts about my own experiences. I hope this can be both useful and entertaining for you, and can give you an insight into umpiring at the elite level.

As to me, I’m an FIH accredited International umpire from Australia. I’ve umpired in the Australian national hockey league and I also spent a year living in Germany umpiring in the German national league. I was awarded my international badge in 2015 at the Oceania Cup Olympic qualifier and I hope to continue my international journey long in to the future. I also have a day-job in health care policy, a background in scientific research and I did my PhD in physics.

I LOVE hockey. It’s my passion. I play, I umpire and I watch/talk/think about hockey way too often (and if you’re here I guess I’m not alone!).

I love the challenge of umpiring such as fast and dynamic game and being able to watch incredible hockey from the best seat in the house! I am so grateful for the wonderful experiences I have been given and the amazing friends I have made through hockey and umpiring, not only in Australia and Germany but also around the world. We’re one big hockey family! A community that shares a passion for the best sport in the world (in my humble opinion). I hope you’ll stay and be part of this family too.

I feel like this community deserves a place where they can stop by to learn, chat and grow. I decided to start this blog as I wanted to share my hockey experiences, but also because I felt like there wasn’t a great resource online for umpires that condenses a lot of helpful information into one place. I hope that Five Meters Please can provide that for you.

So, thanks for stopping by! We have a Development section, a Fitness section and an Experiences section for you to browse, but all three link into one another so there’s plenty to keep you busy and I’ll have a new post for you every few weeks. Please let me know what you think, I’d love to hear from you! Comments, suggestions or just to say hello. You can contact me here.

You can also sign up to the newsletter so that you never miss a new post and you can follow Five Metres Please on Facebook and Instagram for some extra behind-the-scenes stuff and inspiration!

Grab a cup of tea (or coffee, or wine) and have a read – I promise you’ll find something you love!
